Conflict

Every story presents a conflict. Without conflict a story does not exist. What is the major conflicts presented in your book? How do the conflict affect the main characters?

  1. In The Girl on the Train, Rachel and Megan both deal with internal conflicts. Rachel deals with her depression and alcoholism. Rachel and her now ex-husband could not have a baby. Her infertility destroys the ideal life that she had created for herself. She turns to alcohol to suppress her pain, and begins to self destruct. At the present time Rachel has ruined her marriage and her career. Similarly, Megan battles with depression. Megan’s depression seems to stem from her brother’s death. Days after her brother’s funeral, Megan runs away and turns to prostitution and later lives with an older man. Her life seems to turn around when she marries Scott, someone “normal”. Unfortunately, marriage is not enough to make her happy and she seeks attention from other men, including her therapist.

  2. In Gym Candy, Mick Johnson wanted to play starting running back so he asked his dad what to do so he followed his advice. He started with the guy who was 6th on the roster and did everything better than him and moved to the next guy and the next. Soon he was the back up running back but he wanted to start and there was no way he could beat the starting running back. His coach calls him down to his office after practice and makes him the special teams captain, but he wasn't done trying to start. He told his dad about being captain of the special teams and his dad told him to ask his coach to play starter because he had nothing to lose. The next day he went to the coaches office and asked him and he said that he already made up his mind. But he wasn't done their.

  4. There are more than one major conflicts in my book. There are regular boarders and the Week Day worriers. The Regular Boarders. The main characters of this book are know as regular boarders, The Week Day Worriers are like the rich prep kids that only stay for weekdays and leave on weekends. these conflicts are mostly pranking each other nothing really physical.

  8. January 1 1992, Charlie has his emotions all over the place because of Sam & Craig having sex for the first time and then he understood the ending of the poem. Also, he tells us about the time when his Aunt Helen got molested and how that effected him and Aunt Helen's life.
